Mobile wireless network - a smart alternative to LoRaWAN

Turn your vehicle fleet into a mobile radio network for meter reading. Use every trip your vehicles make to read your radio meters at high frequency. The real-time data obtained is then analyzed using artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure precise, data-driven and future-proof planning of your supply network.

IoT (Internet of Things) is revolutionizing water supply through intelligent networking. Instead of relying on an expensive, permanently installed radio network (such as LoRaWAN gateways, which have to be installed everywhere in the city), waterloo AirRead OnBoard transforms existing vehicles into mobile radio receivers. During routine trips through the supplied area, the waterloo AirRead OnBoard radio receiver obtains consumption data and alarms from the radio meters.

IoT networks: How utilities use real-time data to make better decisions

More and more utilities are using radio meters or retrofitting their old electricity, gas, heat and water meters with radio modules. These radio meters are the backbone of the new digital infrastructure. They send their consumption data to central servers via special, permanently installed IoT networks (such as LoRaWAN, NB-IoT or MIOTY). The switch to radio meters makes it possible to query consumption data in real time. This continuous data synchronization is the basis for effective water loss management. Suppliers can react quickly to unusual deviations, detect leaks at an early stage and precisely locate their position.

The problem of fixed wireless networks: High costs, unreliable coverage

Wireless meter reading promises efficiency and precise meter data, but the reality is often different: High investments in fixed radio networks, patchy coverage in rural or urban areas and dependence on network operators and their usage fees slow down many water suppliers.

With waterloo AirRead OnBoard , we are presenting an alternative that enables water suppliers and local authorities to manage their own mobile radio network for collecting meter data – flexibly and cost-effectively.

waterloo AirRead OnBoard - Automatic meter reading & monitoring while driving by

Our waterloo software uses mobile radio network equipment that integrates seamlessly into the existing routines of water utilities and municipalities. The waterloo AirRead OnBoard radio receiver is flexibly installed in municipal vehicles – such as refuse collection vehicles, buses or maintenance vehicles that regularly cross the supply area anyway. As soon as the vehicle is within range (drive-by principle), the system automatically collects all relevant meter data (meter reading, alarms) and forwards it for further processing. This turns every journey into an efficient reading tour.
